Codroy Valley Wetlands
|
|
Surrounded by a breath taking view, Codroy Valley is on the top of the list. Bird watchers must place to see. The different species and varieties are very unusual.
925 hectare of the mouth of Grand Codroy consists of flats, sand bars at low tide and spits covered by dune grass. Portions of the wetlands are covered by eel grass. There are four small wetlands.
The valley offers shelter, and nesting grounds for waterfowl, waders, warblers along with many other species. This area is the only place in Newfoundland where flocks of Great Blue Herons nest. An abundance of duck and geese frequent the area. Eagles, Harriers, and Ospreys are common predator to the nesting birds because of the mountains around.
Endangered Piping Plovers nest in the sandy beaches. An array of common birds: black birds, song sparrows, bay breasted, and palm warblers are just a few that can be heard singing.
