Lomond River
This trip is for people who don’t have a lot of time but would still like to enjoy a taste of the backcountry. The riders meet at the stables in Reidville at 12:30 pm. and are transported along with the horses to Lomond Road near Wiltondale. There they will unload the horses and mount up for the 5 hour ride to Lomond. You will travel along the Lomond River, then crossing the river, head inland as you wind to higher country. Keep your eyes and ears open, as you may encounter a moose along the trail. Stop and take some pictures of “the bowl” a natural occurring waterfall near the top of the mountain that flows into a large hole in the ground and exits some 5 miles away in Bonne Bay Pond. After descending on the other side of the mountain, you will arrive at Lomond River Lodge, a full service lodge with all the amenities. After a steak barbecue supper with all the trimmings prepared by your guide, you can explore the area around Lomond or just relax in you cabin in front of your propane fireplace. After breakfast, it’ll be time to pack up and begin the journey home.
Lomond River lodge is located on the banks of Lomond River on the outskirts of Gros Morne National Park. There are four two bedroom cabins with a full bathroom, kitchen, dinning area and living room complete with propane fireplace. The lodge also has three motel units, takeout, Laundromat, trailer park and lounge, which hosts a dance every Saturday night.
