Table Top Mountain

If you are looking for a great adventure, Come and experience a breath taking hike on a historical trail that takes you right to the top of the Table Mountains. Over looking a spectacular view. The table mountains are 518 meters and are best known for their gale force winds blowing down from the summit to the weather beaten forest below. Winds have been recorded up to 160km and have disrupted highway traffic and have derailed our now discontinued trains. During World War 11,the United States built radar stations and assorted buildings on the top of the mountain.

The valley below the table mountains which you will view while on your adventurous hike is known as Lauchia Macdougall “human wind gauge”. He was contracted by the Newfoundland railway to determine if the winds were too high for the trains to run. Today truck drivers rely on CB radios.
